Balagarh, a city near the river Ganga in the district of Hooghly, is home to nearly a century old boat making tradition. The boatmakers and artisan have been holding on to this practice passed on by their ancestors for generations. But recently due to adverse conditions, they are succumbing to choosing different professions for the sake of livelihood. Investors are backing off and the lack of capital is being one of the major obstacles for them.
